Find your friends at a festival, then let it end with the weekend

At a festival, a phone signal is patchy, batteries run down and people drift between stages. A temporary orbit in Orbily gives your group one map, meeting points on the plan and a quick way to ask someone where they are, and it ends when the weekend does.

How it plays out

  1. Thursday

Jade creates a temporary orbit for the festival, ending on Monday at noon, and the other four join from her link.

  2. Friday, 6pm

The meeting point by the main stage goes on the plan as an event, with its place on the map.

  3. Saturday, 11pm

Leon's pin hasn't moved for a while, but his battery shows 4%. Jade asks him to check in, with fifteen minutes to answer. He checks in from the food stalls before his phone dies.

  4. Sunday

Two of them switch to updates only to save battery, and post where they are when they move.

  5. Monday, noon

The orbit ends. Sharing stops by itself, and the weekend's photos stay in the orbit.

What helps

Does Orbily work when the signal is bad?

Partly. Positions go up when there is signal, and your own photos and plan entries are saved on your phone and sent when you are back in range. Other people's live positions need a connection, and the chat does too.

Will sharing my location drain my battery?

It uses less than you might think: location runs on motion, so the GPS rests while you are still. If you are worried, switch to updates only and post where you are when you move.

More questions about festivals

Yes. An SOS alerts everyone in your orbit with where you are. Orbily is not an emergency service: if someone is hurt, find the festival's medical team or call 999 in the UK.
