A night out, and knowing everyone got home
The best part of a night out is the bit where everyone gets home. Orbily lets you share your location on a timer for the evening, tells your friends when you get in, and gives you a quick way to ask someone to check in.
Join the betaHow it plays out
- Friday, 9pm
Ellie shares her location with her housemates' orbit for four hours as she heads into town.
- 11.40pm
She leaves the bar to walk to the taxi rank. Her housemates can see her pin, with her battery beside it.
- 12.25am
The orbit is told Ellie is home. Her timer runs out a little later and her sharing stops by itself.
- 1.30am
Her housemate Kat hasn't come back. Ellie asks her to check in, with half an hour to answer, and Kat checks in from a friend's flat.
- If it ever goes wrong
One tap on SOS starts a ten-second countdown, then everyone in the orbit is alerted with where she is.
What helps
How do I share my location just for the night?
Share on a timer: 15 or 30 minutes, 1, 2 or 4 hours, until an evening time or until midnight. When it runs out, sharing stops by itself and the orbit is told.
Is Orbily an emergency service?
No. An SOS alerts the people in your orbit, and Orbily does not call the emergency services for you. If you are in danger, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number, first.
More questions about nights out
No. When a timer runs out, sharing stops and your live position is deleted.
No. The orbit sees that you got home, never your address.
